A Letter from the CEO: Reflecting on Our Impact and Looking Ahead

Dear friends and partners,

As I reflect on the first half of 2024, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude for the work we’ve accomplished together. The team at Student Achievement Partners (SAP) has continued to build on our mission of improving student achievement by focusing on what matters most: providing joyful, asset-based, high-quality instruction to all students, especially those who are Black, multilingual, or from historically underserved communities.

We strongly believe in the power of collaboration and evidence-based practices to transform education for the better. I’m excited to share the highlights of our impact from January to June as a preview of the path we are charting for the months ahead.

Launching the Essential x Equitable (e²) Instructional Practice Suite

In November 2023, we introduced the e² Instructional Practice Suite™—a set of tools designed to support educators in delivering grade-level culturally responsive, linguistically sustaining, and joyful instruction. This set of evidence-based tools is already making a difference in classrooms across the country. State, district, and classroom leaders are using it to enhance the way they engage with students, ensuring that learning is not only rigorous but also deeply relevant to their lived experiences. Through this report, I am thrilled to share a few highlights on how students are responding positively and becoming more engaged in their learning.

Expanding Literacy for Older Students

We have long recognized the need for greater support in literacy, particularly for middle and high school students who may not have received the foundational reading skills they need to succeed. In response, we expanded our “Improving Reading for Older Students” course, and I’m proud to share that hundreds of  educators participated this spring. These practitioners are now better equipped to help students build the literacy skills necessary for both academic and life success. The course is driving transformational change at the classroom level with 85% of  educators who completed the course reporting that they plan to make moderate or major changes to their instruction as a result of their learnings. We’re excited to continue offering this course to equip educators with the high quality professional learning they need to support to provide high quality literacy instruction. Enrollment for our fall offering is open now.

Data Notes: Educators are asked to complete an opening survey before they begin the course and a closing survey after they complete the course. These figures show average confidence on both surveys based on a 5-point scale where 1= Not at all Confident and 5= Very Confident. Some educators may have experienced more growth than what is shown and some may have experienced less, but there is growth in confidence overall after completing the course.

Building Partnerships for Enacting Equitable Instructional Materials

Our partnerships remain at the heart of our mission. From South San Francisco Unified School District (SSFUSD) to Maryland’s State Department of Education, we’ve worked alongside state leaders and educators to build capacity for selecting and implementing high-quality instructional materials (HQIM). Our case study with SSFUSD is a great example of how districts can use data-driven decision-making to choose materials that align with their students’ needs, fostering equity in classrooms.

Reaching More Educators with Free Resources

We continue to prioritize accessibility, offering free and low-cost resources that help educators deliver high-quality instruction. Our tools have been downloaded more than 1.3 million times so far this year, and we are committed to ensuring every teacher, regardless of location or resources, has access to the best materials possible. Our popular tools like the Coherence Map and Instructional Practice Guide are just a few of the resources that support teachers in creating impactful classroom experiences.

Looking Ahead

The work we’ve done in the first half of 2024 is just the beginning. As we look to the future, we’re excited to continue expanding our e² Instructional Practice Suite™ with new tools like the e² Coaching™ Resources. We’re also ramping up our focus on literacy for older students, offering new courses and resources to support teachers across disciplines.

Additionally, we’re partnering with more districts, states, and curriculum developers to improve the quality of instructional materials and bring innovative, student-centered resources into classrooms nationwide. We believe that all students, especially Black and multilingual learners, deserve instruction that reflects their strengths and supports their potential.

I am inspired every day by the dedication of our team, partners, and education stakeholders like you, who share our belief that high-quality education can unlock opportunities for every student. Together, we are creating a future where all students can thrive academically and lead choice-filled lives.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership on this journey. I look forward to the work we will do together in the months ahead.
